This study found no association between apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene variations and the development of panic disorder (PD). Genetic analysis of patients and controls revealed no significant differences, indicating ApoE is not a risk factor for PD.

Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Genetics
  • Psychiatry

Background:

  • Panic disorder (PD) is a debilitating psychiatric condition.
  • The role of genetic factors, including apolipoprotein E (ApoE), in PD is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the potential association between apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene variations and the risk of developing panic disorder (PD).

Main Methods:

  • Genotyping was performed on 92 patients diagnosed with PD according to DSM IV criteria.
  • A control group of 174 individuals was also genotyped for ApoE variations.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in the distribution of apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene variations were observed between the panic disorder (PD) patient group and the control group.

Related Experiment Videos

Conclusions:

  • The findings suggest that variations in the apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene are not associated with the development of panic disorder (PD).
  • ApoE gene variations do not appear to be a significant risk factor for panic disorder.
