Area of Science:

  • Neuro-oncology
  • Pathology
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Cerebellar liponeurocytoma is a rare, recently described tumor.
  • Distinguishing features include fat density on neuroimaging.
  • This tumor has a relatively favorable prognosis.

Observation:

  • A 38-year-old woman presented with headache, dizziness, and signs of increased intracranial pressure.
  • Emergency CT revealed a subtentorial mass with fatty tissue and upstream hydrocephalus.
  • The patient underwent surgical intervention.

Findings:

  • Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses confirmed cerebellar liponeurocytoma.
  • The tumor exhibited heterogeneous characteristics with fatty tissue density.

Implications:

  • Complete surgical removal followed by radiation therapy is the recommended treatment.
  • Early diagnosis through neuroimaging is crucial for favorable outcomes.
  • This case contributes to understanding the clinical presentation and management of cerebellar liponeurocytoma.
