Summary

Physiological and operative severity score for the enumeration of mortality and morbidity (POSSUM) scoring accurately predicts morbidity but overestimates mortality in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Further evaluation for other laparoscopic procedures is recommended.
