Summary

Multichannel urodynamics (UDS) is generally well-tolerated and acceptable, with low complication rates. Most patients found the procedure tolerable and were willing to undergo UDS again.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Diagnostic Procedures

Background:

  • Urodynamic studies (UDS) are essential for evaluating lower urinary tract dysfunction.
  • Assessing patient tolerance and potential complications of UDS is crucial for clinical practice.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the tolerability and morbidity associated with multichannel urodynamics (UDS).

Main Methods:

  • 154 patients (87 men, 67 women) completed a two-part questionnaire assessing pain, embarrassment, physical burden, and willingness to repeat UDS.
  • Post-procedure assessment included micturition pain, hematuria, dysuria, cloudy urine, fever, and urinalysis.

Main Results:

  • Mean scores for pain, embarrassment, and physical burden were low (2.27, 2.59, 1.76 respectively).

Related Experiment Videos

  • High willingness to repeat UDS was reported (73.6% men, 80.6% women).
  • Low complication rates observed, including infrequent fever and leukocyturia.
  • Conclusions:

    • Multichannel urodynamics (UDS) demonstrates good patient tolerability and acceptability.
    • The complication rates associated with UDS are relatively low.
    • Ensuring proper informed consent is vital for patients undergoing UDS.
