Area of Science:

  • Pulmonology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Primary lung adenocarcinoma is a common malignancy.
  • Mucinous (colloid) adenocarcinoma is a rare subtype, often presenting as an intrapulmonary neoplasm.

Observation:

  • A 61-year-old male presented with a peripheral left lung mass.
  • Imaging revealed slow growth over 3 years.
  • Macroscopic examination showed a gelatinous substance resembling strawberry jelly.

Findings:

  • Microscopic analysis confirmed adenocarcinoma with abundant mucin.
  • The diagnosis was primary mucinous (colloid) adenocarcinoma of the lung.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of recognizing rare lung neoplasms.
