Summary

Syndrome of inappropriate anti-diuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) causing hyponatremia is rare with deep neck abscesses in infants. Early recognition and management are crucial for preventing severe outcomes.

Background:

Symptomatic hyponatremia in infants is commonly linked to infections like pneumonia and meningitis.
The syndrome of inappropriate anti-diuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) is a known cause of hyponatremia.
Association between SIADH and deep neck abscesses in infants has not been previously documented.

Observation:

A 3-month-old infant presented with a parapharyngeal abscess.
The infant exhibited altered sensorium and recurrent seizures.
Hyponatremia due to SIADH was identified as the cause of the infant's neurological symptoms.

Findings:

This case highlights a novel association between deep neck abscesses and SIADH-induced symptomatic hyponatremia in an infant.

Implications:
