Background:

  • Central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma is a rare malignancy in children.
  • Survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) treated with cranial irradiation are at increased risk.
  • Leukoencephalopathy following treatment can precede CNS lymphoma development.

Observation:

  • This study reviewed MR and CT scans of 3 children with biopsy-proven CNS lymphoma.
  • One child had optic nerve sheath and chiasm infiltration from known non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
  • Two patients developed CNS lymphoma years after ALL treatment, following cranial irradiation and leukoencephalopathy.

Findings:

  • CNS lymphoma in children presents with variable imaging features.
  • Lesions were typically isointense or hypointense on T1-weighted MRI.
