Summary
Ongoing ischemia in the heart after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) increases cardiomyocyte apoptosis. This study found that infarct-related artery occlusion with ischemia significantly elevates apoptosis in viable heart muscle, suggesting ischemia relief may prevent adverse cardiac remodeling.

- Therapeutic strategies aimed at relieving ischemia post-AMI may be beneficial in preventing apoptosis and subsequent cardiac remodeling.
