Summary

Clitoral size measurements are possible in a clinical setting. Parity, or childbirth history, significantly impacts clitoral dimensions, while age, height, weight, and oral contraceptive use do not affect size.

Area of Science:

  • Gynecology
  • Female Sexual Health
  • Anatomy

Background:

  • Understanding normal female anatomy is crucial for clinical practice.
  • Establishing reference ranges for anatomical measurements aids in identifying potential abnormalities.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the typical size of the clitoris in normal women.
  • To investigate the influence of age, height, weight, parity, and oral contraceptive use on clitoral dimensions.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective measurement of clitoral dimensions (transverse and longitudinal diameters, total length) in 200 women.
  • Measurements were taken during routine gynecologic examinations in an office setting.

Main Results:

  • Mean transverse glans diameter: 3.4 ± 1.0 mm; Mean longitudinal glans diameter: 5.1 ± 1.4 mm.
  • Mean total clitoral length: 16.0 ± 4.3 mm; Mean clitoral index: 18.5 mm².
  • Parous women exhibited significantly larger clitoral measurements compared to nulliparous women.

Conclusions:

  • Clitoral size measurements can be reliably obtained in a standard clinical environment.
  • Parity is a significant factor influencing clitoral size.
  • Age, height, weight, and current oral contraceptive use do not demonstrate a significant effect on clitoral dimensions.
