Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Parasitology

Background:

  • Cutaneous leishmaniasis, also known as oriental sore, is a parasitic infection transmitted by sandflies.
  • Facial disfigurement can result from cutaneous leishmaniasis, impacting patient quality of life.

Observation:

  • A 28-year-old patient presented with a typical oriental sore on the upper lip.
  • The lesion caused macrocheilia (enlarged lip) and significant esthetic distress.

Findings:

  • N-Methylglucamine antimonate was administered for treatment.
  • The drug proved effective and well-tolerated in managing the cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the successful treatment of facial cutaneous leishmaniasis with N-Methylglucamine antimonate.
  • Effective treatment can alleviate esthetic concerns and improve patient outcomes in oriental sore cases.
