Background:

  • Temporal arteritis (TA) is a chronic inflammatory vasculitis affecting medium- and large-sized arteries.
  • TA is rarely reported in Asian populations, making its presentation and characteristics in this demographic less understood.

Observation:

  • Two cases of TA in Asian patients are presented, both initially manifesting with headache.
  • Physical examination revealed characteristic engorged, hard, and palpable temporal arteries.

Findings:

  • Temporal artery biopsies showed two distinct pathological types: multinucleated giant cell arteritis and panarteritis without giant cells.
  • One patient tested positive for immunoglobulin G anticardiolipin antibody (IgG-aCL).

Implications:

  • This report highlights the occurrence of TA in Asia and its varied pathological presentations.
