[Immune alterations in patients with laryngeal cancer at different stages]

Abstract:
The immune status was studied in 162 patients with laryngeal cancer (T2N0M0, T3N0M0, T4N1MX). Progression in these patients was associated with suppression of specific mechanisms of immune defense -- cytolysis of target cells and activation of CD4(+) lymphocytes. Cytolytic mechanisms were not compensated by involvement of other defense mechanisms, i.e. nonspecific, natural killers mediated. Dysgammaglobulinemia detected in laryngeal cancer patients can be considered as alteration associated with tumor damage to mucosa.

Larynx
The human larynx, often referred to as the voice box, is an intricate organ located in the neck. It serves as a pathway for air to enter the lungs during respiration and is an essential component of voice production.
Anatomy of the Larynx
The larynx consists of various components, including cartilage, muscles, and vocal cords. Its structure includes three large unpaired cartilages—the thyroid, cricoid, and epiglottis—and three smaller paired cartilages—the arytenoids, corniculates, and...

Cellular Adaptation IV: Dysplasia and Metaplasia
DysplasiaDysplasia refers to abnormal changes in the size, shape, and organization of mature cells, characterized by pleomorphism, nuclear abnormalities, and increased mitotic activity. It commonly affects epithelial tissues, including the cervix, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory mucosa, and endometrium. Although it may occur alongside hyperplasia, dysplasia is not a true adaptive response but a preneoplastic change with potential to progress to cancer. When confined above the basement...
