Summary

Two new etchants for CR-39 detectors, NaOH in methanol and methanol+water, show higher efficiency and reduced etching time compared to conventional 6 M NaOH. These findings advance CR-39 track detector technology.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce and evaluate two new etchant solutions for CR-39 detectors.
  • To compare the performance of these new etchants against a standard 6 M NaOH solution.

  • CR-39 detectors were irradiated with fission fragments and alpha particles from a 252Cf source.
  • Etching was performed using newly developed NaOH dissolved in methanol and NaOH dissolved in methanol + water solutions.
