Summary

A rare case of bilateral peripheral infiltrative keratitis occurred after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). This condition, likely immune-mediated, resolved with topical steroid treatment.

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Corneal Surgery

Background:

  • Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a common refractive surgery procedure.
  • Complications, though rare, require careful monitoring and understanding.

Observation:

  • A 22-year-old male presented with bilateral peripheral infiltrative keratitis on postoperative day one after LASIK.
  • A dense infiltrate band was noted between the flap margin and limbus, extending circumferentially but not involving the flap edge.

Findings:

  • The infiltrate exhibited a peripheral concentration, fading centrally and extending into the interface, consistent with diffuse lamellar keratitis.
  • The condition responded successfully to topical prednisolone acetate 1% eye drops.

Implications:

  • This case highlights LASIK-induced bilateral peripheral infiltrative keratitis, a likely immune-mediated entity.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Prompt diagnosis and steroid treatment are crucial for managing this post-LASIK complication.
