Summary

Active tuberculosis (TB) case finding among household contacts in Peru significantly increased detection rates compared to passive methods alone. This strategy shows promise for improving TB control in high-incidence areas.

  • To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a simple active case finding strategy.
  • To assess the yield of active case finding among household contacts and neighbors in a high TB incidence area of Lima, Peru.

  • Symptomatic household contacts of active TB cases have a very high risk of active disease.
