Abstract:
The 1st International Workshop on HIV and Hepatitis Coinfection was held in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, 2-4 December 2004. This report outlines issues raised at the workshop concerning the treatment of hepatitis C in HIV-coinfected patients. Clinical trials using pegylated interferon in combination with ribavirin have provided positive outcomes, although clinicians still face a number of challenges in learning how best to use these drugs.
