Background:

  • Chondrosarcomas are malignant tumors arising from cartilage cells.
  • Conventional chondrosarcomas are typically grade 2 or 3 and can arise de novo or from pre-existing lesions.
  • Synchronous presentation of multiple chondrosarcomas in normal bone is exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with two distinct, histologically confirmed grade 2 conventional chondrosarcomas.
  • Tumors were located in the right proximal femur and right scapula.
  • No evidence of pulmonary or visceral involvement was noted at presentation.

Findings:

  • This represents the first reported case of simultaneous, non-monomelic chondrosarcomas arising in two separate, previously normal bones.
  • Surgical resection of both tumors was performed.

  • Follow-up of three and a half years showed no local recurrence or distant metastasis.
  • Implications:

    • This case expands the understanding of chondrosarcoma presentation and behavior.
    • Differentiating synchronous chondrosarcomas from metastatic disease is a critical clinical challenge.
