Background:

Cranial bone defects pose significant reconstructive challenges.
Traditional methods for cranioplasty can be associated with complications.
The use of preserved autologous bone grafts is explored for defect repair.

Observation:

Six patients (5 male, 1 female) with cranial defects underwent repair using preserved subaponeurotic bone plates.
Defects resulted from hematoma evacuation (5 patients) or pituitary tumor resection (1 patient).
Bone plates measured 5-8 x 6-10 cm and were preserved for 57-92 days.

Findings:

Microscopic examination confirmed the viability of the preserved bone plates.
Evidence of vascular integration between the bone plates and surrounding aponeuroses was observed.
X-ray imaging revealed normal bone density in the repaired areas.
No postoperative complications were reported in any of the patients.

Implications:

Preserved subaponeurotic bone plates represent a viable option for cranioplasty.
This technique may offer a safe and effective solution for reconstructing cranial defects.
Further research could validate this method for broader clinical application in neurosurgery.
