Summary

Dietitians with higher evidence-based practice knowledge (PAK score) had more education, research training, and professional involvement. Integrating evidence-based practice into dietetics curricula is recommended for better clinical application.

Area of Science:

  • Dietetics
  • Evidence-Based Practice
  • Professional Development

Background:

  • Dietitians' perceptions, attitudes, and knowledge of evidence-based practice (PAK score) are crucial for clinical application.
  • Understanding factors influencing PAK score can inform educational and professional development strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To measure dietitians' PAK score.
  • To identify sociodemographic, educational, and professional factors predicting PAK score.

Main Methods:

  • Cross-sectional, descriptive study utilizing the Dietitian Research Involvement Survey.
  • Survey administered to 500 randomly selected registered dietitians.
  • Bivariate and multiple linear regression analyses used to examine relationships between factors and PAK score.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • Higher PAK scores correlated with increased education, research coursework, frequent research article reading, advanced board certification, full-time work, and professional organization membership.
  • Strongest predictors of PAK score included recency of research reading, work status, education level, and association memberships.

Conclusions:

  • Dietitians' evidence-based practice adoption is influenced by education, training, work experience, and professional engagement.
  • Evidence-based practice principles should be integrated into dietetics curricula to enhance routine application of research findings.
