Purpose:

  • To assess thyroid function and morphology in diabetic outpatients.
  • To compare the prevalence of thyroid disorders in diabetic versus non-diabetic individuals.

Summary:

  • Diabetic patients (n=256) showed a significantly higher frequency of thyroid disorders (51.6%) compared to controls (n=75, 38.7%).
  • No significant differences in thyroid function were observed between diabetic and control groups with thyroid disorders.
  • Diabetic patients with thyroid disorders were more likely to be women, have type 2 diabetes, and a family history of thyroid issues.
