[Poor countries: the new "Eldorado" of smoking addiction]

Abstract:
In Niger, the cost of one pack of cigarettes is equal to that of one day's nourishment. In Bangladesh, 10 million people would be freed from malnutrition if the money that they spent on tobacco was used instead to purchase food. Tobacco impoverishes entire nations, just as it does individual families. The tobacco industry and cigarette producers halted their expansion in rich countries, and they have now launched a full attack on developing countries. Urgent action is imminently needed in order to put a stop to the foreseen health and social catastrophes linked to tobacco consumption.
