Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Carotid-cavernous sinus fistula (CCF) is a rare condition often resulting from trauma.
  • Timely diagnosis and intervention are critical for patient outcomes.

Observation:

  • Clinical presentation includes ophthalmoplegia.
  • Diagnosis confirmed by CT angiography and conventional arteriography.

Findings:

  • Direct post-traumatic CCF requires immediate treatment.
  • Embolization, via arteries or veins using balloons or coils, is the primary treatment.

Implications:

  • Delayed treatment can lead to severe visual complications or mortality.
  • Arteriography and embolization offer effective management strategies for CCF.
