Abstract:
The parameters of external respiration function and the peripheral blood concentration of cortisol, testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone were determined in 28 male patients with nocturnal asthma every 6 hours during two days running. There was a shift in the maximum secretion of estradiol from daylight to night hours, which may contribute to enhanced bronchospasm in the presence of hypoprogesteronemia, hypoandrogynemism, and absolute and relative adrenal cortical glucocorticoid deficiency at night.
