Background:

  • Maxillary bone deficiencies, including cleft palate, present significant challenges requiring bone grafting or regeneration.
  • Nell-1, a secreted molecule with chordin-like domains, is known to induce cranial suture bone growth and osteoblast differentiation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of Nell-1 in accelerating bone formation within acutely distracted palatal sutures.
  • To compare the bone regenerative potential of Nell-1 with Bone Morphogenetic Protein-7 (BMP-7).
