Area of Science:

  • Endocrinology
  • Metabolic Disorders
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Diabetes mellitus is characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin deficiency or resistance.
  • Insulin therapy is crucial for managing blood sugar levels, but traditional injections cause pain and inconvenience.
  • There is a significant need for alternative, non-invasive insulin administration methods.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review current and future strategies for insulin therapy.
  • To highlight the challenges associated with conventional insulin injections.
  • To explore alternative routes of insulin administration for diabetes management.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of various insulin delivery systems.
  • Summary of structural features of insulin and its receptors.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Analysis of clinical significance of different administration routes.
  • Main Results:

    • Pulmonary insulin administration has demonstrated clinical significance.
    • Various alternative delivery methods including oral, nasal, and transdermal routes were investigated.
    • Insulin inhalers and tablets represent viable future alternatives for IDDM.

    Conclusions:

    • Non-invasive insulin delivery methods are essential for improving patient compliance and quality of life.
    • Pulmonary administration shows particular promise for effective diabetes management.
    • Further research into novel insulin delivery systems is warranted for insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM).
