Summary

Rotigotine, a transdermal dopamine agonist, effectively improved symptoms in early Parkinson's disease patients. It also reduced "off" time in advanced Parkinson's patients when used with levodopa.

Background:

  • Two large, well-designed clinical trials were conducted.
  • Patients received either rotigotine monotherapy or rotigotine plus levodopa.
  • Efficacy was measured by Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale scores and reduction in 'off' time.
