Area of Science:

  • Vascular Surgery
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Venous hemangiomas are exceptionally rare tumors.
  • Retroperitoneal venous hemangiomas present diagnostic challenges due to their uncommon nature and location.

Observation:

  • A 61-year-old woman presented with a retroperitoneal mass.
  • Imaging revealed a heterogeneous lesion adherent to adjacent organs and major vessels.

Findings:

  • Subtotal tumor resection was performed due to technical difficulties.
  • Follow-up MRI showed tumor size reduction and significantly delayed enhancement of residual tumor.

Implications:

  • Firm adherence to adjacent structures and delayed enhancement are key diagnostic indicators for retroperitoneal venous hemangiomas.
