Background:

  • Assessing hearing aid effectiveness often involves correlating objective speech measures with subjective patient satisfaction.
  • Traditional unaided prefitting speech measures are commonly used, but their predictive value for aided satisfaction requires investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review the literature to determine if there is evidence of a good correlation between unaided prefitting speech measures and aided satisfaction reported by users.

  • A systematic literature search was conducted, accepting meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and nonrandomized intervention studies.
  • Initial search identified nearly 300 articles; 80 were reviewed in depth, with five studies meeting the inclusion criteria.
