Background:

  • Dysphagia aortica is a rare condition resulting from external esophageal compression by aortic aneurysms or atherosclerotic changes.

Observation:

  • A 63-year-old male presented with a four-month history of intermittent dysphagia.
  • Imaging revealed a widened mediastinum, enlarged aortic arch, and external esophageal compression consistent with a giant aortic arch aneurysm.

Findings:

  • Esophageal endoscopy showed no intraluminal pathology, indicating extrinsic compression as the cause of dysphagia.
  • Contrast esophagography and MRI confirmed a giant aortic arch aneurysm as the underlying cause.
