Summary

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy offers lower morbidity and faster recovery compared to open surgery for adrenal gland pathologies up to 8 cm. This minimally invasive approach is considered the gold standard for benign adrenal conditions.

Background:

  • Adrenalectomy is a surgical procedure to remove one or both adrenal glands.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the outcomes of laparoscopic adrenalectomy with traditional open (laparotomic) adrenalectomy.
  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the laparoscopic approach for adrenal pathologies.

  • A retrospective study comparing 17 patients with adrenal pathology treated between 1997 and September 2004.
  • Eight patients underwent open anterior transperitoneal adrenalectomy.
