Summary

Primary chylopericardium, a rare condition, was successfully treated in an asymptomatic male. Partial pericardiectomy resolved the pericardial effusion, with no recurrence noted at three months post-procedure.

Background:

  • Primary chylopericardium is an uncommon cause of pericardial effusion.
  • Diagnosis often occurs incidentally during routine health screenings.

Observation:

  • A 36-year-old asymptomatic male presented with pericardial effusion detected via chest X-ray and echocardiography.
  • Pericardiocentesis confirmed the chylous nature of the pericardial fluid.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent partial pericardiectomy without duct ligation.
  • Post-procedure follow-up showed complete resolution of pericardial fluid on imaging at three months.

Implications:

  • Partial pericardiectomy is a viable treatment option for primary chylopericardium.
  • This case highlights successful management of a rare cardiac condition with a minimally invasive approach.
