Summary

Short AIB1 genotypes are linked to faster disease recurrence and poorer survival in epithelial ovarian cancer patients. This suggests a potential role for AIB1 genotype in aggressive cancer phenotypes.

Background:

  • The androgen receptor (AR) has a polymorphic CAG repeat influencing its function.
  • AIB1, an AR coactivator, also has a polymorphic glutamine sequence.
  • Genotypic variations in the androgen-signaling pathway may impact epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) aggressiveness.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the hypothesis that genotypic variations in the androgen-signaling pathway promote aggressive EOC biology.
  • To examine the effect of AIB1 genotype on clinical outcomes in EOC patients.

Main Methods:

  • Genotype analysis of the AIB1 CAG repeat region in 89 EOC patients.
  • Review of medical records for clinicopathologic factors and survival data.
  • Statistical analysis using chi-squared test, Kaplan-Meier survival, and Cox regression.
