Summary

Background:

  • Diabetic patients historically experience poorer outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for coronary stenosis compared to non-diabetics.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of drug-eluting stents (DES) in improving outcomes for diabetic patients with coronary stenosis.
  • To compare restenosis and target lesion revascularization rates between DES and bare-metal stents (BMS) in diabetic patients.

  • Analysis of data from large clinical studies including RAVEL, SIRIUS, TAXUS IV, and TAXUS VI.
