Circulating leptin, zinc, and copper levels after extracorporeal circulation

Extracorporeal circulation increases leptin levels and decreases zinc and copper post-surgery. Preoperative zinc supplementation did not alter the leptin response in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting.

- Leptin levels significantly increased at T2 compared to T0 and T1 in both groups.
- Zinc levels decreased at T2 compared to T0 and T1 in both groups.

Conclusions:
- Circulating leptin increases post-extracorporeal circulation as an acute stress response.
- Zinc and copper levels decrease during this period.
- Preoperative zinc administration did not mitigate the observed increase in leptin levels.
