Observation:

  • Pancreatic adenocarcinoma developed in 8.3% of patients with tropical pancreatitis over an 8-year period.
  • A comparison was made between benign tropical pancreatitis, tropical pancreatitis with superimposed malignancy, and de novo pancreatic cancer.
  • Risk factors for malignancy in tropical pancreatitis included age > 40, short symptom duration, weight loss, ultrasound mass, and ductal obstruction.
