Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Bladder leiomyomas are rare benign mesenchymal tumors originating from the smooth muscle of the bladder wall.
  • Intravesical presentation is uncommon, often leading to diagnostic challenges.

Observation:

  • A 47-year-old patient presented with recurrent macroscopic haematuria, a significant symptom of bladder pathology.
  • Computed tomography (CT) and cystoscopy strongly suggested the diagnosis of an intravesical bladder mass.

Findings:

  • Transurethral resection was performed as the treatment of choice for the bladder leiomyoma.
  • The patient experienced no recurrence of the tumor after a two-year follow-up period.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering leiomyoma in the differential diagnosis of bladder tumors presenting with haematuria.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Transurethral resection is a viable and effective treatment modality for intravesical bladder leiomyomas, offering a minimally invasive approach.
  • Further discussion on optimal diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for bladder leiomyomas is warranted based on clinical experience.
