Dysmorphic neurons in the hippocampus were studied in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). These abnormal cells, found in TLE, may correlate with post-surgery seizure auras.

  • Hippocampal sclerosis is a frequent finding in TLE.

  • To investigate the morphologic characteristics of dysmorphic neurons in the hippocampus of TLE patients.
  • To compare histological, clinical, and imaging features of TLE patients with and without these abnormal neurons.
