    Background:

    • Wilms' tumour (nephroblastoma) is a common pediatric kidney cancer.
    • Metastatic patterns significantly influence treatment strategies and patient outcomes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the incidence and clinical significance of bone metastases in pediatric patients with Wilms' tumour.
    • To compare the prognosis of bone metastases with pulmonary metastases from Wilms' tumour.
    • To discuss the utility of skeletal surveys and scans in detecting bone metastases.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 81 patients diagnosed with Wilms' tumour between 1960-1972.
    • Detailed review of patient records, including clinical presentation, treatment, and metastatic sites.
    • Literature review of other series reporting bone metastases in Wilms' tumour.

    Main Results:

    • Two out of 81 patients (2.5%) developed histologically confirmed bone metastases.
    • Bone metastases presented as a lump on the head or an isolated iliac bone lesion.
    • Both patients with bone metastases had a poor response to treatment and died from widespread disease.

    • Bone metastases from Wilms' tumour are a rare but serious complication with a poor prognosis.
    • The prognosis for bone metastases contrasts sharply with the generally good outcomes for pulmonary metastases.
    • Skeletal surveys and imaging are important for detecting this rare metastatic site.
