Human alpha-defensins block papillomavirus infection

Human alpha-defensins, including human neutrophil peptides (HNPs) 1-3 and human alpha-defensin 5 (HD-5), effectively block human papillomaviruses (HPVs) by preventing virion escape from cells. These findings suggest a potential natural defense against HPV transmission.
