Summary

Shed necrotic papillae can obstruct the ureter, leading to serious infection like pyonephrosis and septicaemia. These papillae appear echogenic on ultrasound, mimicking kidney stones.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with symptoms of septicaemia and pyonephrosis.
  • The obstruction was found to be caused by shed necrotic papillae in the ureter.

Findings:

  • Ultrasound imaging revealed echogenic structures within the ureter.
  • These echogenic structures, identified as necrotic papillae, mimicked the appearance of renal calculi (kidney stones).

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare cause of ureteral obstruction.
