Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Orthodontics
  • Craniofacial Imaging

Background:

  • Lateral cephalometric analysis is crucial for diagnosing and planning orthodontic treatment.
  • Existing methods may have limitations in evaluating vertical craniofacial relationships.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce and describe a novel method of lateral cephalometric analysis: the Dawjee analysis.
  • To demonstrate the application of the Dawjee analysis in assessing vertical craniofacial structures, particularly in open and deep bite malocclusions.

Main Methods:

  • Definition of specific landmarks, planes, and angles for the Dawjee analysis.
  • Outline of the procedural steps for performing the analysis.
  • Application of the technique to clinical cases exhibiting open and deep bite patterns.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • The Dawjee analysis provides a structured approach to evaluating craniofacial structures in the vertical dimension.
  • Initial application shows potential utility in differentiating and assessing vertical discrepancies in open and deep bite cases.

Conclusions:

  • The Dawjee analysis offers a new tool for lateral cephalometric assessment, focusing on vertical dimension.
  • Further research is needed to establish normative data for diverse populations, including a South African sample.
