    Summary

    A stray eyelash (cilium) migrated into the anterior chamber after cataract surgery. The eyelash moved through the eye without causing harm, maintaining stable vision after six months.

    Background:

    • Phacoemulsification is a common cataract surgery technique.
    • Small incision cataract surgery aims to minimize trauma and improve recovery.
    • Intraocular complications, though rare, can occur post-surgery.

    Observation:

    • A case report details an intraocular cilium in the anterior chamber post-phacoemulsification.
    • The cilium was observed on the third postoperative day.
    • It migrated from the paracentesis site, through the iris, into the posterior chamber, and re-emerged through the pupil.

    Findings:

    • The intraocular cilium traversed multiple ocular compartments.
    • Despite its migration, no adverse effects were noted.
    • Patient visual acuity remained stable at 6/5 after a 6-month follow-up period.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the potential for foreign body migration after small incision cataract surgery.
    • It suggests that some intraocular foreign bodies may be tolerated without significant visual compromise.
    • Further vigilance is warranted for identifying and managing unexpected intraocular foreign bodies.
