Oral manifestations in selective IgA deficiency

Selective immunoglobulin A (IgA) deficiency did not correlate with increased oral manifestations in children. Compensatory saliva immunoglobulin M (IgM) may explain the lack of difference in oral health between IgA-deficient and control groups.

- Selective IgA deficiency in children does not appear to increase the risk of oral manifestations.
- Compensatory increases in salivary IgM or other non-immunological factors may protect the oral cavity.
- Routine evaluation of IgA and SIgA for oral lesions is not indicated; other factors should be investigated.
