Background:

  • Acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome.
  • It is characterized by the rapid growth of lanugo-type hair, predominantly on the face.

Observation:

  • A 50-year-old woman presented with a 4-month history of facial and upper body hypertrichosis.
  • She also reported a 6-month history of unexplained weight loss.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with inoperable squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix.
  • This represents the first reported association between acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa and cervical cancer.

Implications:

  • Acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa is a significant indicator of a poor prognosis.
  • While commonly linked to lung and colorectal tumors, this case expands the spectrum of associated malignancies.
