Summary

Alternating motion rate (AMR) is a more sensitive indicator of speech production issues in dysarthric speakers than speaking or articulation rates. This study found AMR significantly lower and less variable in controls, distinguishing them from dysarthric individuals.

Conclusions:

  • Alternating motion rate (AMR) is a more sensitive and easily detectable indicator of abnormal articulation in dysarthric speakers than speaking rate and articulation rate.
  • AMR's distinct characteristics in controls versus dysarthric speakers highlight its diagnostic potential.
