Summary

Functional MRI reveals distinct brain activity patterns in early multiple sclerosis (MS) patients during cognitive tasks. Clinically definite MS patients show increased hippocampal activation, while clinically isolated syndrome patients exhibit heightened anterior cingulate cortex activity, suggesting differing cognitive support needs.
