Summary

A rare case of a massive bladder hernia migrating into the scrotum was successfully treated with surgical repair and mesh. This uncommon condition, bladder hernia, requires prompt surgical intervention for resolution.

Background:

  • Bladder hernias are rare, often discovered incidentally during inguinal hernia repair.
  • They can be classified as intraperitoneal, extraperitoneal, or paraperitoneal.

Observation:

  • A 65-year-old male presented with a scrotal tumor, diagnosed as a paraperitoneal bladder hernia within the scrotum, associated with an inguinal hernia.
  • The patient was initially being evaluated for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention included bladder resection and inguinal hernia repair using Marlex mesh.
  • A subsequent transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was performed.
  • The patient remained asymptomatic at a six-month follow-up.
