Summary

Giant peritoneal loose bodies, rarely symptomatic, are usually small. This case highlights the incidental discovery of two unusually large peritoneal loose bodies during surgery for small bowel obstruction.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with symptoms of partial small bowel obstruction.
  • During laparotomy, two unusually large, giant peritoneal loose bodies were identified.

Findings:

  • The giant peritoneal loose bodies were approximately pea-shaped with smooth, glistening surfaces.
  • Their presence was incidental to the primary surgical indication.

Implications:

  • This case expands the spectrum of peritoneal loose body presentation.
  • Highlights the importance of considering unusual presentations of common findings in surgical diagnostics.
