[Importance of the new triazoles in antifungal therapy]

Polyene antibiotics and azole compounds are two major groups of clinically important antifungal drugs. Both interact with the plasma membrane of susceptible fungi. The mechanisms of action and toxicities of the members of these two groups have been reviewed. Also the importance of two new triazoles compounds, itraconazole and fluconazole, has been emphasised.
