High cholesterol did not impair endothelial function in hypertensive rats. This study found that hypercholesterolemia does not affect nitric oxide (NO)-dependent or prostacyclin (PGI2)-dependent endothelial function in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).

    • Hypercholesterolemia does not induce endothelial dysfunction in rats with pre-existing hypertension.
    • The study suggests that hypercholesterolemia alone, even with hypertension, may not be sufficient to trigger significant endothelial dysfunction or a strong inflammatory response, which are precursors to atherosclerosis.
